Ingredients
1 tsp olive oil
1 yellow onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, seeded and sliced
1 pkg hot or sweet Italian sausages or brats
1/4 tsp salt
1 pinch red pepper flakes
1 can or bottle Three Notch'd 65 Roses brew (or any lighter colored beer)
1 pkg hoagie rolls, sliced in half
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
2 tsp onion salt
1 pkg mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- In a pressure cooker or on the stove top, saute onions and bell peppers in olive oil for a few minutes to soften.
- Make space for the sausages and add them, making sure that they sit flush against the bottom of the pan.
- After 5 minutes of browning on one side, flip and repeat for an additional 5 minutes.
- Add salt and red pepper flakes, and pour beer over top. If using a pressure cooker, set cook time to 10 minutes on high pressure and secure lid. If using the stove top, bring mixture to a boil then reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes, adding more liquid as needed to prevent scorching.
- Once onions, peppers and sausages are done, remove from heat and keep warm.
- While sausage mixture is cooking, prepare rolls: Slice almost in half your hoagie rolls, slather with butter and sprinkle with onion salt (watch our video).
- Place rolls in a 350 F preheated oven to bake slightly and toast, about 10 minutes.
- Remove, fill with onions, peppers and sausages, drizzle with hot sauce if desired and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Place back in the oven to melt cheese for 5 minutes.
- Remove, close subs and slice sandwich in half.
- Serve hot!
